About Me

Profile

Hey, my name is Tom Patterson, I was born in Liverpool and I have studied Computer Science with Software Development at The University of Liverpool. Since finishing my degree I have gone on to become a Junior Developer at Auger, working as part of a small development team. This has meant I have worked with lots of different technologies, I have become proficient in C# and continued learning Javascript. I have also had experience using Azure services and managing a remote development team.

After finishing university I went on to do some freelance work for a local garage and a tutoring agency, this involved redesigning their websites and modernizing them.

I have always had a passion for computer science and web development in particular and this is where I have focused most of my personal projects such as creating a gaming news site. In my spare time I enjoy photography with a focus graffiti, I am currently building a web page to display these photos. I have attended two hackathons during my time at university, in the first we developed the front-end of a website which would help students find friends on campus. During my second hackathon our team managed to win first place we created an interactive video to help students gain employment by teaching them skills.

Film & TV show search application

I created a full stack application for my dissertation, the stack was:

  • React
  • Node.js Express
  • MySQL

The app was designed to be a search engine so users could browse through films across multiple platforms so they wouldn't have to search them individually. A REST API is used and the information is stored using JSON in the React states.
